This is a simple step by step tutorial showing an easy method for painting 2 dimensional cuts and scrapes. No specific supplies are needed besides bruise purple, black, deep red, and white makeup, stage blood, and a brush for application. You can use creme, oil based makeups, or cheap halloween store colors. This makeup took approximately ten minutes to apply.
Be creative. Once you have mastered the basic design, experiment! This makeup would be a great finishing touch to a boxer costume or an animal attack victim.
Begin by layering in bruise purple and other bruise colors in the areas your cuts will occur.
This makes the skin look angry and inflamed.
With the deep red, begin to draw out the shapes of your wounds. Note that the cheek wound consists of smaller parallel “scratches” while the forehead wound is just a singular irregular shape.
The first level of detail is creating a shadow for your cuts.
With black, draw a line along the tops of your wound shapes.
Now you add the hi-light. With white or a light flesh color, paint an uneven line at the bottom of your wound shapes.
This creates the illusion of light bouncing off the “lip” of the wounds.
